Temari Ball/Pin Cushion

Has anyone ever made a Temari ball?  I finished one the other day and I love it.  It is a lot of work (all done by hand), but I really enjoyed the process.  I followed the directions from Omiyage by Kumiko Sudo.  I have made several projects from this book and I have liked every one of them.  This one can be a pin cushion, but I don't think I will be able to stick any pins in this one.  Weird, huh?

The best part is that this entire ball was made from my scraps!

Broken Dishes Quilt Finished

I finished my Broken Dishes Quilt.  YAY!  It measures 84" x 66" and I quilted it using a meandering puzzle pieces pattern.

I had a few blocks left over so I made two baby quilts.  I am in the process of binding one and here is a picture of the one that is finished.  I ended up putting sashing between the blocks and this little quilt measures 32" square.

A New Hat/Cap

I made a hat!  I used a pattern from the Japanese magazine I bought while I was visiting San Francisco.

I wanted to use silk ties, ones I had on hand...

It is amazing how much fabric one tie yields.  I cut out the entire lining from the bottom section of one tie.

 I then cut the ties up and laid them out in a pleasing manner.  I added some trim here and there.  Then, I sewed the pieces together and then quilted on top of the seams.

And voila!  I really like the way the hat turned out.

 However, I do not like it on me.  This one will be given away.  I think I will try to make this hat again with a smaller visor.

The best part is that I was able to follow the pattern...
